The more money a business can save on free or low cost advertising the more money they can use to make a profit in other areas of their business.

Internet Marketing for Small Business

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 by Justin Severidt

internet-marketing-small-businessDo you want clients that are around the corner, or around the world? This is not a trick question. Your answer does not have to be either or – it can be both when you learn the effective tools of Internet marketing for small business. The world of brick and mortar can meet the click and mortar world when you have the web site that effectively impacts your company’s online image. You want potential customers to visit your web site often, and tell others to stop by. A simple bookmark achieves this, but how can you satisfy your visitor’s needs? Some practical solutions are not very different from what you would do with a store in the mall.

This requires laying a foundation for your web site. Internet marketing for small business does not have a magic formula, but there are a few basic principles to follow. These will ensure that your online presence agrees with your business goals, and encourages repeat customers. First, you need to determine your target audience. People go online at their convenience, looking for and expecting certain things. Thus, you need to understand the people who will use your site, and how they like to use and receive information on the Internet.

Also, you want to have clear objectives for the site. How does the web site fit into your business model? Do you only want a site because everybody else has one? Or, will it generate untapped markets and increase your revenue? Building an online presence is an effective tool for small businesses to communicate conveniently, and at a relatively low cost. Gone is the restriction of reaching a broad audience. Online gives you the advantage of reaching customers in ways that traditional marketing tools would have prohibited.

Internet marketing for small business must always remain customer-focused. As prospective customers visit your site, you can also capture information to build customer profiles, and serve your customers better. Make sure your web site is user-friendly, and has all of the relevant information the customer needs. Also, the visual impact is just as important. Adding large pictures that take forever to download may cause a visitor to click on someone else site. So, unless graphics are extremely important to your product or service, limit use. Your goals will guide how you develop your Internet marketing strategy.

3 “Other” Ways To Use Video

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 by abrudtkuhl

Andy Brudtkuhl is the Chief Web Guru at 48web - a web strategy and internet marketing company in Des Moines, IA. Andy blogs about web strategy at WebStrategyWorkshop.com and also co-hosts an internet business podcast called Managing The Edge.

If you read this blog you are likely aware of the power of video in internet marketing. You know that you should create videos that tell a story about your business or products. You know demoing your software or doing screen-casts to help explain topics are great content. And you know that video can help engage and convert your audience. In this post I want to share three “other” ways to use video in your business that you may not have thought of yet.

1. Video Proposals

This year at 48Web we decided to change how we do proposals for client projects. On the last few proposals we have created - we have attached a video along with it. In this video we walk through the proposal and elaborate on topics. This has been a huge success for us. The initial reaction from these potential clients when they get a link to a video alongside the written proposal has been fantastic. This extra ten minutes of work really pays off because it shows them how serious you are and that you can explain complicated topics easily.

Every client we have sent these to so far has chosen to do business with us.

2. Video Training

We have a core set of training videos that we share with clients depending on the project we are doing with them. Since we have recorded them for general use we can reuse them again over and over. We offer this training for free to new clients to help them understand better what we are helping them accomplish in running their business online. Every client that has signed up for our services have said that these videos alone are worth what they had paid us for consulting. By bundling video based training with any kind of product - whether it’s consulting or laminate wood flooring - you increase the value of the product you are selling.

The best part is you can re-purpose these videos - you only have to record them once and you get to reap the benefit with every client you bring in.

3. Video Email Marketing

We try to include video in as much of our email marketing as possible. While most email clients obviously can’t play video embedded in them - we have found a workaround to embed video in email. If you simply include an image of your video player in an email you will likely increase click through rates 10-15% - if not more. This simple but effective tactic can bring new life to your email newsletter and help drive traffic back to your website.

We are exploring ways to use video every day… We’ll let you know what we find - and what works.

Finding Qualified Customers with Effective Generation Lead Marketing

Thursday, January 28th, 2010 by Nikolas Severidt

Generation lead marketing is a great way to reach a highly targeted audience.  Although this kind of technique has been around for awhile, the internet provides even more ways to find customers.  However, many people are not quite sure how to go about reaching their ideal audience.  There are definitely ways to learn the proper methods to this, but it could end up costing both a lot of time and money that could be better spent by you in product development and customer service.

One of the keys to successful generation lead marketing is figuring out what keywords customers might use to find your product.  With the large amount of websites out there, one or two general terms will oftentimes not be enough to lead a potential client to your website.  It is essential to think of and include a few different terms on your site that are highly relevant to your company.  This allows people already looking for something similar to find your company.  By having your webpage rank high on a search engine’s list is the ultimate form of lead generation.

There are also other ways to utilize the internet in order to drive traffic to your site and thus increase sales.  Some popular generation lead marketing techniques are e-mail, newsletters, online videos, and building a presence on various social networking sites.  By sending out e-mails and newsletters, people are informed about your company and can then choose to take further action if they are interested.  Sending out these feelers does not take a lot of time on your part and they supply you with a population of customers with a strong interest in your product.

Some methods for generating leads, such as videos and social networking, can even directly increase your position on search engines.  Social media websites, such as Facebook and Twitter, usually result in the highest amount of potential customers and often take even less effort than e-mail marketing.  The reason for the success of these techniques lies in the fact that they take advantage of free, word-of-mouth advertising.  Everyone knows that a testimonial or referral from a friend holds more weight than information coming from a company itself.  Therefore, just a few satisfied customers will lead to more and more people craving your product.  Although these methods seem straightforward, it is often best to find someone to advise you through the process.  With a little help, generation lead marketing will drastically increase your number of customers.
