When you begin using social media in your business you can become somewhat frustrated with the not so immediate results. However, social media is about relationship building and not instant results.
In a recent study from Chadwick Martin Bailey and iModerate Technologies, they found that over 50% of Facebook and Twitter followers are more likely to buy and recommend a business or product than they were before they became engaged on Facebook or Twitter.

With over 65% saying they are more likely to purchase from a company because of following them on Twitter, there is no reason for a business not to be using Twitter at this point. It is very evident based on this research that people trust companies they follow on Facebook and Twitter, which means if you are providing great content, people will recommend your business the next time their friends or family asks for a recommendation.
“While social media is not the silver bullet that some pundits claim it to be, it is an extremely important and relatively low cost touch point that has a direct impact on sales and positive word of mouth,” comments Josh Mendelsohn a vice president at Chadwick Martin Bailey. “Companies not actively engaging are missing a huge opportunity and are saying something to consumers – intentionally or unintentionally- about how willing they are to engage on consumers’ terms.”
The study also uncovered perceptions among consumers that those brands not engaging in social media are out of touch. When asked the question “What does it say about a brand if they are not involved with sites like Facebook or Twitter?” they said the following:
There are many different online channels out there for your business to be a part of, and sometimes it can become overwhelming as to which one is right for you. When you get started with social media there is no better place than the two most popular social media sites (Facebook and Twitter), because that is where the people are.
Here’s a recap of the new tools and their benefits.

There are also many more updates to come, including improved LinkedIn commenting, custom URL variables for campaign tracking and much more.
